The lessons student-athletes gain through team sports often reach far beyond the game itself. For Danna Bouchot (’26), volleyball became an important part of her experience at Mission Achievement and Success (MAS) Charter School.

After enrolling in August 2021, Dana found that being part of the volleyball team taught her patience and deepened her determination to go after her goals. The sport also gave her a healthy way to release tension and relax.

For Danna, one of the best parts of attending MAS has been the people she met along the way and the teachers who supported her. “They genuinely cared about my well-being and inspired me to always see the best in myself,” she said. Their encouragement helped motivate her to continue growing and improving during her time at school.

When sharing advice for incoming freshmen, Danna encourages them to focus on their schoolwork and make smart decisions instead of trying to fit in. She believes it is important to take care of your mental health and keep your attention on what matters — remaining true to your values.

Danna enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to church, trying new foods, listening to music, and going to the gym. She says these activities remind her of the value of community and help her stay balanced and supported. Like volleyball, they also give her time to relax and recharge.

One important life lesson Danna says she learned in high school is that challenges are temporary. “Be brave and ask for help when you need it because teachers and counselors are always willing to support you,” she said. Danna also believes it is important to be mindful of the people you surround yourself with and to learn from mistakes while continuing to improve.

After high school, Danna plans to attend The University of New Mexico to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing. From there, she plans to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a travel nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), caring for premature babies. In the next ten years, she sees herself married with a family of her own and living in a home they build together, ideally in Texas, with animals on the property.

Danna says she admires her father because he works hard to provide a comfortable life for her and her siblings. His example inspires her to work hard so she can one day provide a good life for her future children.
When it comes to food, Danna’s favorite restaurant is Chili’s. Her go-to order is the Chili’s Triple Dipper appetizer because she enjoys getting a variety of flavors in one meal.

Danna also shared that she hopes to be a good mom and accomplish all of her other goals. She plans to keep working on herself as she continues striving to reach her highest potential.

Danna Bouchot's years at MAS Charter School reflect care for others and a clear sense of purpose. Those qualities will continue to guide her as she begins the next chapter of her journey.
