MAS Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight: Julian Burke

This Senior Spotlight closes out our Class of 2026 series, and it features Julian Burke. Julian initially enrolled at Mission Achievement and Success Charter School in the Fall of 2019 as a 6th grader, then spent the years that followed building habits that he says required focus, effort, and follow-through.

Running cross country for the MAS Bulls gave Julian one of his clearest examples of progress through practice. He says running helped him improve athletic skills and overall physical fitness. 

Outside of school, Julian enjoys writing and more running. Urban exploring holds his interest, and Julian enjoys geocaching too. Geocaching works like a GPS-based scavenger hunt where people use coordinates to find hidden containers. Julian says these activities help him explore new places and meet new people. Video games give Julian another way to relax.

At MAS, Julian says the best part came down to the people around him. His schoolmates, he says, were engaging and very creative. Julian also appreciated supportive teachers who used different teaching techniques to help lessons click.

For incoming freshmen, Julian offers advice that stays practical and direct. 

“Stay focused on your schoolwork, ask for help when needed, and build good relationships with their teachers, as they can be a valuable source of support and guidance.”

That same approach shows up in the life lesson Julian says he learned during high school. 

“I’ve learned that it’s important to stay focused on whatever task I’m working on and to ask for help when I need it.”

After high school, Julian plans to join the U.S. Air Force, where he intends to serve as a translator. Ten years from now, he sees himself traveling the world and mountain climbing. He also plans to become a published author while working comfortably in his chosen career.

At home, Julian says his mom remains his biggest source of motivation. He admires her because she sees the best in him and encourages him to give his best in everything he does.

For a treat in the Duke City, Julian heads to Basil Leaf Vietnamese Restaurant (1225 Eubank Blvd. NE). Thai Tea with Boba is his go-to, and he says it tastes really good. Thai tea is a rich, velvety drink with a bright orange hue. In Julian’s version, it blends strong-brewed black tea and sweetened condensed milk with chewy tapioca pearls

As Julian leaves his school years behind, he shared one final reflection:

“I want to thank my family for always being there for me. I look forward to the opportunities ahead as I leave my school years behind. I am committed to doing my best in everything I pursue and working hard to succeed in my future endeavors.”

This final spotlight ends the Class of 2026 series on a note of focus and intention. Everyone at MAS feels excited to see where Julian takes his plans, both in service to our country and beyond.
