Meet The Team — Tina Wang, M.A., Elementary Math Coach
This week we’re shining the spotlight on Ms. Wang, known to friends as Tina, who has spent the past four years teaching second- and third-grade math at MAS Charter School. She now serves as our elementary math coach, partnering with teachers on lesson internalization and data-driven instruction to strengthen student performance.
With three master’s degrees spanning information technology, medical information technology, and elementary education, she brings a systems-minded approach to instructional support. As you’ll read below, Ms. Wang’s journey began in Taiwan, where her 13-year-old dream of becoming an animation designer first sparked a love of learning and creativity that still shows up in her work today.
Meet Ms. Wang, in her own words…

MAS: Let’s start at the beginning. Where did you grow up, and what did you want to be when you were 13?
MS. WANG: I grew up in Taiwan and came to the United States to study abroad in 2011. When I was 13, I dreamed of becoming an animation designer.
MAS: What brought you to MAS, and what roles have you held here?
MS. WANG: Before joining MAS, I worked as a 3rd grade classroom teacher at Nancy Lopez Elementary in Roswell, New Mexico. I joined Team MAS in July 2021 and taught 2nd grade math from 2021 to 2024. In 2024 to 2025, I taught 2nd and 3rd grade math. Now, I serve as the elementary math coach for our Yale campus and Old Coors campus teams.
MAS: Tell us about your education and training.
MS. WANG: I earned my bachelor’s degree in information management from a university in Taiwan. I also hold three master’s degrees: an M.S. in medical information technology from Taipei Medical University in Taiwan, an M.S. in information technology from Southern New Hampshire University, and an M.A. in elementary education from The University of New Mexico.
MAS: Your background includes information technology and elementary education. As an elementary math coach, what are you focused on this year?
MS. WANG: My top priority for the 2025–2026 school year is to support teachers in improving elementary math performance through lesson internalization and data-driven instruction.
MAS: You’re also part of the MAS Aspiring Leaders Program. What does that experience add to your coaching?
MS. WANG: I am participating in MAS’ Aspiring Leaders Program, a leadership development initiative designed to strengthen instructional excellence and prepare staff for future leadership roles. Through rigorous training, accountability, and measurable student growth, we build the skills and results necessary to lead at the highest level.
MAS: What do you want families to know about MAS?
MS. WANG: MAS is a place where you don’t realize how much you’ve learned until you step out and see the world. Our structure and culture of excellence empower students to develop lifelong skills that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.
MAS: What’s something people might be surprised to know about you?
MS. WANG: Most people are surprised to learn that I appeared on several TV shows when I was in elementary school. I attended with my elementary school’s string orchestra, where I played the violin, and I was also in the choir.
MAS: Favorite restaurant in town and the dish you keep coming back to?
MS. WANG: I love Pacific Paradise (3000 San Pedro Dr NE; Albuquerque, NM 87110) because their sushi is always fresh and delicious. I also enjoy Range Café in Bernalillo, especially their breakfast burrito, which is one of my all-time favorites.
