Graduating senior Alexander Gloria has several valuable takeaways from his eight years as a student at Mission Achievement and Success (MAS) Charter School. At the top of that list is the importance of slowing down and appreciating life as it comes.

During his time at MAS, which began in the fall of 2018 when he was a 5th grader, Alexander says, “I’ve learned to take things slowly and not always rush through life,” adding that it is always okay to make mistakes, “as long as I learn from them.”

While reflecting on his experience, he also encourages incoming students to avoid procrastination, especially when it involves studying. He says those delays, no matter the “excuse,” can result in serious consequences for academic success.

Among Alexander’s favorite things about attending MAS was the opportunity to build meaningful friendships and learn about people from different backgrounds.

“Many teachers genuinely cared about me as an individual, not just as a student, and I also loved being able to spend time with friends that I don’t often get to see outside of school.”

Outside of school, Alexander says he loves spending time with his family, “mostly talking with my mother about the Bible, drawing, listening to music, collecting Pokémon cards, and spending time with my friends.” He said these activities keep him motivated during challenging times and also allow him to relax and recharge.

Now that he is preparing to graduate, Alexander plans to attend The University of New Mexico (UNM), where he intends to earn a degree in business administration.

“After completing my studies at UNM, I plan to pursue trade certification at Central New Mexico Community College while also working toward becoming a certified fitness instructor.”

Looking to the future, he plans to be, “established in the business field, married with a family of my own, and living in a comfortable home. I also aspire to be more spiritually mature.”

If you are looking for a great croissant in Albuquerque, Alexander recommends Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen at 4865 Pan American West Freeway, where he says they are the best in town.

Alexander leaves MAS with a thoughtful perspective on life and a clear sense of what matters to him. As he prepares for college and the life he envisions for himself, he carries with him the lessons, relationships, and personal growth that shaped his time at MAS.
