“Thank you to my dad for always believing in me and never making me feel like I couldn’t achieve my dreams.”

Alexis Azul Perez carried that gratitude with her throughout her years at Mission Achievement and Success Charter School (MAS). After enrolling in the fall of 2019 as a 6th grader, she says her dad and time at MAS helped her build confidence and prepare for the future she plans to create.

Alexis says the best part of attending MAS was the opportunity to take dual credit courses, which allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. She also appreciated the support available to students, including access to excellent lecturers and tutoring. She said the resources at MAS helped students succeed and achieve their best grades.

Her advice to incoming freshmen is simple and direct.

“I would advise incoming freshmen to pay attention in class, listen to their teachers, and always do their best.”

After graduation, Alexis plans to attend The University of New Mexico, where she will study child psychology. Ten years from now, she plans to be a successful psychologist. She also plans to earn a master’s degree in the field, own a home, and raise a family.

Alexis says the lessons she gained in high school continue to shape how she approaches goals and setbacks.

“I’ve learned that it’s important to give my best effort in everything I do and to be okay with failure, because it teaches resilience and prepares me to try new approaches and opportunities.”

Outside of school, Alexis enjoys writing and shopping. She also likes listening to music and baking, and she values spending time with family and friends. Traveling to experience new things has also been part of her life, and she says these activities help her adapt to change, relax, and maintain a healthy balance in daily life.

When she is dining out, Alexis says she really enjoys Chick-fil-A, and what she orders usually depends on her mood at the time.

When asked who she admires most, Alexis pointed to her dad and the example he set. She shared that he came to the U.S. with nothing and worked hard to provide for her and her siblings. She also shared a message she carries with her as she moves forward.

“You came here with nothing yet gave us everything. This accomplishment isn’t just mine. It’s yours, too. Thank you for being there every step of the way.”

Alexis leaves MAS with plans that are clear and shaped by steady effort. With college ahead and a long-term vision already in place, she is ready to take the next step.
