“If I could start over, I would still choose MAS.” That reflection says a great deal about Anahi Cisneros’s experience at Mission Achievement and Success Charter School. After enrolling in August 2019 as a 6th grader, Anahi spent the years that followed growing in confidence, building meaningful relationships, and preparing for the future she plans to create.

Sports played an important part in that growth. Anahi participated in both volleyball and basketball, and she says those experiences helped her build communication skills and confidence while forming lifelong friendships with teammates. Being part of those teams pushed her outside her comfort zone and helped her feel more confident connecting with others.

When Anahi reflects on what she liked best about attending MAS, she points to the structure and support the school provides. She also appreciated the chance to take dual credit classes, which allow students to earn college credits while still in high school. That opportunity gave her a head start for college. Anahi says the College and Career Readiness Counselors, along with her teachers, were always willing to go the extra mile to help students like her learn and do well on their academic assessments and exams.

Her advice to incoming freshmen is thoughtful and encouraging:

“I would tell incoming freshmen to be themselves, be brave, and try new things, as this will help them grow and learn more about who they are.”

She also believes it is important to stay focused, especially during senior year, because the choices students make can affect grades and future opportunities.

Outside of school, Anahi enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also likes coloring, cooking, taking occasional walks, listening to music, and watching movies. She says these activities help her relax, clear her mind, and maintain a balanced, positive mindset.

One of the most important life lessons Anahi says she learned in high school is the value of choosing friends wisely and staying true to herself.

“I’ve learned that it’s important to choose your friends wisely and to be true to yourself instead of trying to fit in.”

She also learned the importance of being mentally and emotionally present so she can fully appreciate the people around her and the moments she shares with them.

After high school, Anahi plans to attend The University of New Mexico-Gallup to study cosmetology. Later, she plans to become a licensed real estate agent so she can combine her passion for beauty with her interest in business. In the next 10 years, she sees herself completing her studies at UNM-Gallup and working as an independent cosmetologist. She also wants to be in a financial position that allows her to support her family, travel to explore new cultures, and move toward owning multiple salons and real estate properties.

Anahi says she admires her mother and her brothers because they are always there to support and encourage her. Their guidance during difficult moments has helped her persevere and stay focused on her goals.

When it comes to food, Anahi’s favorite restaurant is Texas Roadhouse. She loves their steak with mashed potatoes, and she also looks forward to the bread that they serve.

Anahi’s time at MAS reflects growth fueled by a willingness to embrace new opportunities. We have no doubt that these qualities will continue to guide her as she steps into the next chapter of her life.
