Two years ago, Fabian Luevano joined the Mission Achievement and Success (MAS) Charter School community as a sophomore and was instantly drawn to the genuine care displayed by his high school’s teachers and staff members.

Noting that MAS offers opportunities that aren’t available at other schools, Fabian adds, “The staff’s dedication in helping students truly learn has had a meaningful impact on me, and I greatly appreciate it.”

Among his takeaways from MAS over the past two years is keep your eye on the prize.

“One of the most important life lessons I’ve learned in high school is that, despite challenges, it’s essential to take your education seriously, persevere through difficulties, stay focused on your goals, and be proud of the growth you achieve.”

To that end, Fabian says he plans to put those lessons to work following graduation in May by enrolling at Central New Mexico Community College here in Albuquerque. In addition, he wants to sign up for a two-year trade school to learn welding, with the objective of “gaining the skills I need for a successful career in the field.”

Ten years from now, Fabian would like to be in a position to own his own welding business. He also envisions starting a family of his own, having a home of his own, and driving a nice, reliable vehicle. “I also want to be someone others can look up to and be proud of.”

His advice to incoming MAS students is to realize that challenges are inevitable, but it’s important to never give up.

“Persevere, pursue your dreams, stay focused on your goals, and don’t let what others say distract you from your path,” he says.

The person Fabian admires the most is his older brother, whom he says always motivates him to be brave and who supports him through rough times. “He shows me the importance of resilience and family.”

In fact, Fabian says his high school journey has been most meaningful thanks to the support of his entire family, as well as the friends who encouraged him along the way. “I am where I am today because of them, and I am truly grateful.”

When he is not at school, Fabian enjoys spending time with friends and siblings. He plays baseball and helps his parents when needed. He also writes and sings original songs, and he likes winding down with video games. Fabian also enjoys dining at Chick-fil-A, where he usually orders the Spicy Deluxe Sandwich with buffalo and ranch sauce, plus waffle fries and a Coke.

Fabian Luevano brings the same energy to his friendships and family that he brings to his education and his music. As he moves into what comes next, he carries forward the teamwork he has practiced and the creativity he has built. Everyone at MAS is excited to see the next chapter Fabian writes for himself.
