MAS Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight: Jan Angelo Aguilar

Since enrolling at Mission Achievement and Success Charter School in August 2021, Jan Angelo Aguilar has approached high school with focus, discipline, and a clear vision for his future. His journey reflects steady growth, deep respect for family, and a commitment to building a meaningful career.

Although Jan did not compete in team sports in high school, his experience in wrestling and basketball in the Philippines shaped the habits he carries today. Through athletics, he learned discipline, consistency, and accountability. Bringing those lessons into the classroom, he developed an impressive work ethic that supported his academic success. Outside of school, Jan enjoys going to the gym, watching movies, reading, and cooking. He especially enjoys baking cinnamon rolls, which gives him a creative outlet while helping him unwind.

Among the big pluses of attending MAS for Jan was participating in the dual credit program, which allows students to earn college credits while still in high school. Through this opportunity, and with the guidance of the College and Career Readiness counselors, he gained valuable experience navigating college expectations and planning for the future.

Jan encourages incoming freshmen to stay focused and make the most of their time in high school. He believes these years are an opportunity for growth and self-discovery, and that avoiding distractions can lead to accomplishments students will be proud of later.

After graduation, Jan plans to enroll in the nursing program at Central New Mexico Community College. Once he earns his associate degree, he intends to continue at The University of New Mexico to complete a bachelor’s degree in nursing. His long-term goal is to become a registered nurse, building a stable career that allows him to support his family.

In 10 years, Jan sees himself established in his profession, helping his mother in any way she needs, and starting a family of his own. He hopes to become a caring father and build a life centered on meaningful relationships. He admires his parents for the sacrifices they made for him and his brother, and their example continues to guide his decisions.

When he is not studying or working toward his goals, Jan enjoys grabbing pizza from Gimani’s (2100 Louisiana Blvd NE), which is one of his favorite local spots.

The MAS community is proud of Jan Angelo Aguilar and looks forward to watching him grow into the healthcare professional and family man he aspires to become.
