Mikal Belicove

Miko Barnett, who enrolled at MAS Charter School in the fall of 2021, lives by a simple philosophy: “Always up, never down.” That mindset helped guide her through high school and continues to shape what comes next for this member of the Class of 2026.

Miko credits friendships formed at MAS for inspiring the goal of building a career that’s fueled by entrepreneurship. After graduation, she plans to attend The University of New Mexico and major in business as the first step toward that lifelong dream.

“The best part of attending MAS for me was the friends I made,” Miko said. “Being surrounded by people who understand and support me made my high school journey a positive and memorable experience.”

After college, Miko plans to use entrepreneurial thinking to pursue a tattoo artistry business. And within the next decade, she also imagines a quiet life with a small family, a home, and a truck.

Outside of school, Miko enjoys creating art while exploring opportunities to earn income through creativity. Sketching and drawing help express creativity and support the goal of becoming financially independent. Family members have always encouraged, supported, and guided her toward success. In fact, much of Miko’s success in high school is credited to her mother, who has worked incredibly hard as a single parent to support Miko and a brother.

Miko’s favorite restaurant is Luigi’s Restaurant & Pizzeria, where the go-to order is Shrimp Alfredo. Another favorite is Frank’s Famous Chicken and Waffles, appreciated both for the food and the welcoming, vibrant atmosphere.

Miko Barnett leaves MAS with creativity, determination, and a clear vision for the future, and we’re looking forward to seeing where that entrepreneurial spirit and artistic talent lead next.
