A student at Mission Achievement and Success (MAS) Charter School since 2020, Valeria Anaya says the friendships she formed and the bonds she developed with her peers and teachers played an important role in her personal growth.

Valeria says one of the biggest lessons she learned during high school was identifying what truly matters to her and focusing on it. She believes it is important to avoid distractions while making thoughtful choices. She also values enjoying the journey and learning from mistakes, which she says helps with her interest in continuous self-improvement.

When asked what advice she would give incoming freshmen, Valeria encourages them to take full advantage of dual college credit courses offered through Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) and approach them seriously. She says these courses can provide valuable preparation for college and future goals.

While she does not spend much time in extracurricular activities on campus, Valeria enjoys music and spending time with family and friends. She says these moments help strengthen her relationship with God and support her personal development.

After graduating, Valeria plans to attend CNM for two years before transferring to The University of New Mexico (UNM). There, she has her eyes on a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Once she completes her degree, Valeria plans to work in the field and help others. She also sees marriage and starting a family as part of her future.

Valeria says the people she admires most are her sisters, who have always supported her and taught her important life lessons. She also credits her mother with helping her understand the value of discipline when facing life’s challenges.

When it comes to food, Valeria has a clear favorite. She enjoys eating at Tulipani Pasta at the Sawmill Market (1909 Bellamah Ave. NW; Albuquerque, NM 87104), and says their pasta is the best whether she is dining there or taking it home.
