MAS Students Invited to Jackie Robinson Night Project

Mikal Belicove

Jackie Robinson’s courage reshaped Major League Baseball and opened doors far beyond the ballpark. MAS students now have a chance to reflect on his legacy through art or writing while earning tickets to the Albuquerque Isotopes’ Jackie Robinson Celebration Game on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

The Isotopes — Albuquerque’s Minor League Baseball team and the Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies — are inviting all MAS students to participate in the Jackie Robinson Night Art and Essay Project, a community project that honors the legacy of Jackie Robinson. In 1947, Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers. His perseverance and talent helped create more opportunity in sports and inspired generations to challenge discrimination and break barriers in their own lives.

Students may submit either a written essay or an original piece of artwork inspired by Jackie Robinson and the barriers he broke in sports and society.

Free Baseball Game Tickets!

Each MAS student who submits an entry will immediately receive four (4) Reserved Level tickets to the Isotopes Jackie Robinson Celebration Game on Wednesday, April 15 at 6:35 p.m. The Isotopes will play the Oklahoma City Comets at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park, also known as “The Lab,” in Albuquerque.

Students can use one or more of the following questions to inspire their submission:

  • Why was Jackie Robinson’s impact so important?
  • What inspiration can you draw from Jackie Robinson to help break barriers we still face today?
  • Do you have a goal to become the first person to accomplish something in your life? What is it and why?

Submission Deadline

All entries must be dropped off by Monday, April 13 at 5 p.m.

Tickets: When students drop off their written essay or artwork, they will receive vouchers for four (4) tickets. These vouchers can be redeemed immediately at the Isotopes Box Office, which is located in the same building.

Celebrate Jackie Robinson’s Legacy Through Art and Writing

The Jackie Robinson Night Art and Essay Project is a meaningful chance for MAS students to connect history and personal goals and objectives while enjoying a fun evening with family and friends at the ballpark.
