MEET THE CLASS OF 2025 — CARLOS OLIVAS:

MAS Editor

MEET THE CLASS OF 2025 — CARLOS OLIVAS: Our next senior spotlight features a student who’s learned the value of focus, resilience, and staying true to yourself. Since enrolling at MAS in 7th grade, he’s grown through both challenges and choices — learning to prioritize his goals, evaluate his relationships, and bounce back stronger after setbacks. Whether skating outside of school or reflecting on what it means to move forward with intention, he brings a steady determination to his next chapter. With plans to pursue an electrical trade and dreams of future travel, homeownership, and financial independence, he’s ready to build a life that reflects his growth and drive. Meet Carlos, in his own words…

Enrolled at MAS: August 2019 (7th grade)

Post-High School Plans: Studying electrical trades at CNM, working with his dad in roofing, and saving for a car and a home

Passions and Hobbies: Skateboarding, anime, and dreaming of travel to France, Japan, and Mexico

Life Lesson: “No matter how hard you fall, you can still get up and try again.”

Q&A WITH CARLOS

MAS: What extracurriculars helped shape you?

CARLOS: "In 9th grade I played on the soccer team, which taught me persistence. In 10th grade I joined the boxing program — it helped me with discipline."

MAS: What did you like best about MAS?

CARLOS: "I liked the cohorts — you’re with one class, so you get to know people and can ask for help. I also think the teachers are more attentive here than at other schools."

MAS: What are your goals after high school?

CARLOS: "I’m going to CNM to study electrical trades and work with my dad in roofing to save up for a car — either a Lexus or a BMW. Once I get my certifications, I want to buy a house."

MAS: Any hobbies that have helped you grow?

CARLOS: "Skateboarding. It taught me that no matter how hard you fall, you can still get up and try again."

MAS: What’s one life lesson you’ve learned in high school?

CARLOS: "I’ve learned to be my own person. In 9th grade I cared too much about what others thought. I did things I shouldn’t have, just to fit in. Now I focus on what’s best for me."

MAS: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

CARLOS: "I want to be financially stable, own a house and a car, and travel — especially to Paris, Tokyo, and Mazatlán."

MAS: Who do you admire most?

CARLOS: "My mom. She’s been through a lot, but she keeps going and sometimes hides her sadness so it doesn’t affect us. I admire her strength and the way she lives her life."

MAS: Favorite local restaurant?

CARLOS: "Naruto Ramen Bar in Nob Hill — I always get the Tonkotsu Ramen."

Carlos’s journey is a great reminder that growth comes from within — and that focusing on your path, staying grounded, and getting back up after you fall are all part of becoming who you’re meant to be. Stay tuned for more MAS Class of 2025 senior spotlights!
