Meet The Team — David Trujillo, Custodian & Basketball Coach
- Meet The Team
This week, we’re shining the spotlight on another longtime member of the MAS staff family. Whether he’s keeping the Old Coors campus in top shape or coaching on the basketball court, this team member brings dedication, heart, and decades of hands-on experience to our facilities and students' extracurricular activities. Meet Mr. Trujillo, in his own words…
MAS: Let’s start with your background. Where did you grow up, and what kind of work did you do before joining MAS?
MR. TRUJILLO: I grew up in Taos, New Mexico, and from a young age, I loved working with my hands. My brother-in-law taught me construction and masonry, and I worked as a mason for about 20 years before coming to MAS.
MAS: When did you start working at MAS, and what has your role looked like over the years?
MR. TRUJILLO: I started in August 2016. I was the Gym Master at the Yale campus from 2018 to 2020, and now I’m the Custodian at Old Coors, where I focus on facilities upkeep and campus care. On the coaching side, I’ve been heavily involved in boys basketball across both campuses:
- 2020–2021: Head Coach, Middle School, Yale campus
- 2022–2023: Head Coach, Middle School Old Coors campus and Varsity at Yale campus
- 2023–2024: Head Coach, JV at Yale campus
- 2025: Assistant Head Coach at Yale campus
MAS: What do you enjoy most about working at MAS?
MR. TRUJILLO: I’ve made great friends here. I was hired by our now Director of Program Completion and Compliance, Ms. McClendon, and our Founder & CEO, Ms. Mitchell has done so much for me and my family; that’s why I stay!
MAS: What’s the most important thing you want people to know about MAS?
MR. TRUJILLO: We do a great job preparing students for college. I love being part of that because it gives them a strong start.
MAS: What’s something most people would be surprised to know about you?
MR. TRUJILLO: I love to travel. I go to Mexico often (Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and one of my favorites, Puerto Peñasco). I’m a member of Vidanta Resorts, so I stay at resorts pretty often. My next trip is coming up this June… my family and I are driving the California coastline and hitting the beach.
People may also be surprised to know that I have five kids, and my daughter, Beverly Cordova, worked at MAS for nearly five years. My granddaughters also attended MAS until they moved to Rio Rancho. My other kids went here too. My children range in age from 19 to 34, and I have three granddaughters.
MAS: Last question — what’s your favorite restaurant in town, and what do you enjoy ordering?
MR. TRUJILLO: M’tucci’s , and I like the garlic chicken and the wild mushrooms.
