As one of MAS’s longest-tenured team members, Mr. Myers has supported students and staff since August 2012. Based at our Old Coors campus, he steps into whatever classroom needs coverage and brings a steady, student-first presence built on relationships and rapport. Meet Mr. Myers, who has held many roles during his time at MAS, in his own words…

MAS: Let’s start at the beginning... Where did you grow up, and what did you want to be when you were younger?

MR. MYERS: I grew up in New York. I was born in the South Bronx. When I was little, I always wanted to do something where I was assisting people in a public setting. I wanted to be a firefighter.

MAS: You’ve held a few different roles at MAS over the years. Can you walk us through that path?

MR. MYERS: I was the dean of students from 2012 till 2022, dealing primarily with student behavior, attendance, and mediations involving parents and students. I started teaching in the classroom in 2023, and I became a sub in 2025. During the 2023–2024 school year at the Old Coors campus, I taught English Language Arts (ELA). During the 2024–2025 school year at Old Coors, I taught Science.

MAS: What did you do before joining MAS?

MR. MYERS: I worked for PepsiCo where I was a desktop support analyst.

MAS: Tell us about your education.

MR. MYERS: I earned my undergraduate degree from The University of New Mexico in 2014. My degree is in communications with a minor in Psychology.

MAS: What is your teaching philosophy, especially when you’re stepping into different classrooms?

MR. MYERS: It’s rather simple. Kids learn better from anyone they form some type of rapport with or connection. This works well for me because kids sense energy. They know when someone cares about them as a human being, which embodies more than just being a student.

MAS: What do you want people to know about MAS?

MR. MYERS: MAS Charter School is a place that strives for excellence. It’s a place that believes in all students, regardless of any differences or beliefs, and the overall goal is to create an environment conducive to family.

MAS: What was your very first job, and what did you learn from it?

MR. MYERS: My very first job was working with kids at a summer basketball camp. It was then I knew that working with kids was something I was halfway decent at. I loved coaching basketball and seeing the kids develop. The only thing I didn’t like was being out in the heat.

MAS: What is something people might be surprised to know about you?

MR. MYERS: I’m a very good basketball player and incredibly strong for my size.

MAS: Do you still play basketball?

MR. MYERS: I play pickup basketball when I get the chance, but not as often. I’m getting old and the body doesn’t move the same.

MAS: Last question… what’s favorite restaurant and go-to order?

MR. MYERS: My favorite place to eat is Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen (5011 Pan American Frwy. NE). I order the Pasta Mardi Gras every time (linguine tossed with crawfish, andouille sausage & cremini mushrooms in a tomato cream sauce topped with jumbo grilled shrimp).
