Meet The Yale Campus Students of the Week for May 5-9, 2025

This week, we’re excited to celebrate 11 students from our Yale campus who continue to demonstrate the qualities we value most at MAS. From courage and compassion to integrity, accountability, and a relentless drive for growth, these students lead by example in their classrooms and among their peers. Please join us in congratulating this week’s honorees for their outstanding achievements.

Milianni Torrealba – Yale Campus PreK Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025) – not pictured: Shoutout to Milianni for making great progress with her classroom participation. She’s also been a kind and supportive friend to her peers. Way to go, Milianni; keep up the great work!

Jasper Lucero – Yale Campus Kindergarten Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025) – not pictured: Jasper consistently demonstrates integrity, focus, and excellence. He always does the right thing, even when no one is watching. A quiet leader, Jasper follows directions, uses signals respectfully, and engages with pride. His growth in both Math and Reading are outstanding, and his kind, respectful demeanor sets a strong example for others. Way to go, Jasper!

Daniela Lozoya – Yale Campus 1st Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Daniela exemplifies the MAS Fundamental of Honoring Commitments. She follows through on responsibilities with reliability, dedication, and a positive attitude. Always leading by example, Daniela shows up, supports her peers, and consistently puts in her best effort. Thank you, Daniela, for being such a dependable and inspiring presence!

Zaya Zamora – Yale Campus 2nd Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Zaya is relentless about improvement. She constantly evaluates her academic work and seeks out new ways to improve. Her mindset reflects the heart of continuous growth… she thinks differently, asks for feedback, and strives to do better every day.

Colton Prescott – Yale Campus 3rd Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Colton is a shining example of what it means to deliver results. He participates actively, stays focused, and the quality of his work reflects his consistent effort. Keep up the great work, Colton!

Abraham Rios – Yale Campus 4th Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Abraham exemplifies the MAS Fundamental “Doing the Right Thing, Always.” He demonstrates an unwavering commitment to making good decisions, even when no one is watching. Abraham tells the truth, takes accountability, and sets a high standard for integrity.

Jazmine Rodriguez – Yale Campus 5th Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Jazmine is a respectful, focused student who consistently does the right thing. She shows integrity in her actions, listens carefully, and sets a quiet yet powerful example for her peers.

Letti McCabe – Yale Campus 7th Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025) – not pictured: Letti continues to push herself to grow. Her academic progress is a direct reflection of her dedication and drive to improve. Keep going, Letti, your commitment to yourself  is paying off!

Luisa Ortega Salcido – Yale Campus 8th Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Luisa consistently participates in class and takes ownership of her learning. She remains focused, respectful, and demonstrates maturity by accepting responsibility when she makes a mistake.

Daisy Saravique – Yale Campus 9th Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Daisy embodies the Choose Love pillar of Courage. She faces challenges head-on, stands up for what’s right, and perseveres through difficulty with strength and determination. Her integrity and leadership are an inspiration.

Emerald Kitchell – Yale Campus 10th Grade Student of the Week (May 5–9, 2025): Emerald lives out the Choose Love pillar “Compassion in Action. She consistently goes out of her way to help others and foster a caring environment. Whether it’s mentoring peers or supporting classmates in need, Emerald’s kindness makes a difference.

Meet The Team — Mr. Devon Myers, Substitute Teacher/Escort

As one of MAS’s longest-tenured team members, Mr. Myers has supported students and staff since August 2012. Based at our Old Coors campus, he steps into whatever classroom needs coverage and brings a steady, student-first presence built on relationships and rapport.

In a School Kitchen on Christmas Morning, a Different Kind of Lesson

On Christmas morning, while most of Albuquerque was still quiet, the lights were already on inside a state-of-the-art kitchen at MAS Charter School’s Old Coors campus. The work was part of an annual effort led by ABQ Give Grub, a mutual aid collective of local artists and musicians that has served hundreds of people on Christmas Day for the past eight years.
