Mentorship at the Ballpark

At Mission Achievement and Success Charter School, we believe in surrounding our students with positive outliers — people who lead by example, challenge expectations, and invest deeply in the next generation. One of those leaders is Mr. Cornelius Smith. Mr. Smith, a longtime MAS partner and proud veteran, owns Clearly Clean Janitorial Services — the company that’s kept our school buildings spotless for over a decade. But his greatest contribution to our community isn't what he and his team does for our facilities... it's what he’s doing for our boys.

On select Tuesdays during lunch, Mr. Smith mentors a group of 7th and 8th grade young men, guiding them through conversations about goal setting, resilience, and personal growth. His story — from Special Agent in the U.S. Air Force to founder of a purpose-driven business — is a powerful example of what’s possible when you lead with heart.

Yesterday, Mr. Smith took his mentees into the community with a special trip to an Albuquerque Isotopes game. There, they had a chance to connect, reflect, and just enjoy being kids. Scroll through the photos to see this incredible day in action. And to Mr. Smith: thank you for being the kind of mentor every young person deserves. Your impact is appreciated and visible!
